Butamirate Citrate is a cough suppressant that is used to treat dry (non-productive) cough. A recent viral illness might be the source of your dry cough. Butamirate Citrate is also utilized for cough sedation before to and after surgical operations and bronchoscopy in patients. It can be used for any type of acute cough, including whooping cough and cough caused by acute lower respiratory tract infections (tracheitis, laryngitis, bronchitis), among other things.
Butamirate Citrate suppresses cough by acting directly on the cough area in the brain. Butamirate Citrate is a non-sedating, non-toxic substance that is not connected to opium alkaloids chemically or pharmacologically. After oral treatment, butamirate citrate is promptly and fully absorbed. The sustained-release pill reaches maximum concentration in 9 hours. This is highly protein-bound, with a plasma half-life of around 13 hours. Butamirate Citrate's active metabolites also have antitussive properties.
Use in adult:
Use in children & adolescents:
Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet:
Butamirate Citrate syrup:
Butamirate Citrate pediatric drops:
It's best to avoid taking expectorants at the same time.
Intolerance to the active component.
Butamirate Citrate has a high tolerance. In a few rare cases, adverse responses such as dermatitis, nausea, diarrhoea, and vertigo have been reported, but they have all resolved once the dose was reduced or the medication was stopped.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, butamirate Citrate should be avoided. It can be taken for the rest of the pregnancy if a doctor recommends it, but only with caution. In the absence of evidence on active ingredient removal in breast milk, the advantages of Butamirate Citrate administration during breast feeding should be carefully balanced against the dangers, as a general rule.
Because Butamirate Citrate inhibits the cough reflex, it should not be used in conjunction with expectorants, as this may cause mucus retention in the airways, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and respiratory infections. A doctor should be seen if the cough lasts longer than 7 days (or more than 3 days in children under the age of 12).
